As Roya loses herself in poetry and theology of the West in a stationery shop in town she meets a boy. To break the constraints of traditional Iranian life and expectations and be the next great female scientist. ![]() The main chunk of the story follows a young Iranian girl, Roya, who has a forward-thinking Father who urges her and her sister to go to school and study hard. She mentions love and abandonment and then we are transported to the past, many, many years in the past. ![]() She compliments, again and again, her husband and how kind he is to let her do this. You, as the reader, are just burning to know the story and how we got here. The book opens in present-day watching an elderly woman as she talks about meeting someone from long ago and finally getting to understand why he left her that day. ![]() It was the perfect distraction for the world right now. This book was recommended by my good friend Devin, I am not normally a fiction fan but this story managed me to pull me in almost immediately as it bounced the reader from present-day to past and slowly intertwines each storyline with the other to create an intricate web of love, history, and deceit. Somehow, this is my FIRST finished book this year, wow, that is embarrassing. ![]()
